Fix: The Walking Dead Game doesn’t start on Windows 8 (Steam)

I was having a terrible time getting this game to start at all, couldn’t even get an error message. Finally, after 15 minutes of googling, I found a fix. This problem occurs when a game controller is connected to the PC. In my case I use an Logitech controller (with wireless adapter) for my PC.

Fix:
Download DINPUT8.DLL from here: http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/D/dinput8.dll/5.03.2600.2180/download.html

Place this file in your install dir for The Walking Dead (C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\the walking dead)

Play!

  1. why is it i dont have (C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\the walking dead) this folder in my drive c?

  2. Hey guys. I tried every single one of the possible solutions that
I found on the web. The only way I was finally able to fix the crashing issue,
controller issue, and game not starting, was to copy the dinput8.dll from my
Windows 8 64-bit system folder into the Walking Dead folder under steamapps
common. I can’t remember if it was the DLL from the SYSWOW64 folder or the
normal system32 folder, because I tried them both and don’t remember in which
order. However, one of them did work and I was able to play with no further
    issues!

Hope this helps someone. It’s definitely a time-consuming headache
trying to track down the problem! :-)
